The Opportunity Scholars Program (OSP) is a federal TRIO Student Support Services initiative dedicated to expanding access to higher education for first‑generation college students from low‑income backgrounds. Our mission is to provide the support, resources, and community students need to complete a four‑year degree and experience a meaningful, enriching college journey.
Study Abroad Changes Outcomes
Research shows that college students who study abroad are more likely to graduate. Yet nationally, fewer than eight percent of first‑generation students ever participate in an international program. In 2018, OSP set out to change that. Each Maymester, we offer a faculty‑led study abroad experience designed to broaden students’ perspectives and deepen their academic engagement. This transformative opportunity allows Scholars to explore new cultures, build confidence, and connect their coursework to the wider world.

Funds raised through our crowdfunding campaign directly support up to twelve Opportunity Scholars as they take part in this study abroad experience.
