The College of Information and Communications strongly believes that an appreciation of people with different life experiences and an absence of bias stand as a cornerstone of the culture at the University of South Carolina. The CIC is committed to these ideals and to fostering diversity of thought and inclusion of each individual through an enabling, safe, and supportive environment.
The mission of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the CIC is to cultivate a more diverse, equitable and inclusive campus culture, where every individual, regardless of background, has the full opportunity to flourish and thrive.
Inclusive Excellence is achieved through three primary goals:
- to improve the relative racial/ethnic and gender representation of our student body, staff, and faculty
- ensure that there is equity for all
- create, promote, support and assess an inclusive campus culture/climate that embodies our Carolinian Creed and makes every member of our college community feel that they are valued and affirmed.
This fund will support many DEI initiatives for the CIC including our 4+1 dual degree program, the Augusta Baker Endowed Chair, the Digital Media Experience, the Linda Lucas Walling Collection for Disabled Children, the DEI Research Symposium, the Media and Civil Rights History Symposium and our low-cost study abroad program.
